This study is based on Cochilco's annual Mining Survey of Production, Water, and Energy (EMPAE) covering 53 copper mining operations in Chile, accounting for 99% of national copper production in 2022. Despite high coverage, maintaining data quality remains crucial. The report reveals insights into the energy consumption of the copper mining industry, showing a total energy consumption of 185,995 TJ in 2022, representing 15% of the country's total consumption. The analysis highlights regional disparities, energy source breakdowns, and efforts toward renewable energy integration and energy efficiency.
