The threat posed by illegal mining to the quality of water resources in Ghana has become a major public concern due to the closing down of some water treatment plants. This study aimed to investigate heavy metal pollution in fena River due to illegal mining activities. Maintaining water quality is crucial to the proper functioning of the environment and the people living in it. Results of metal concentration in water showed that cadmium, lead, and iron were the man polluting order od individual metals, and that cadmium is the only metal to have polluted all six sites studied. The poor quality of the river poses a threat to the health of riverside communities which still depend on Fena River for domestic activities.
