Description
Since 2021, escalating gang violence in Port-au-Prince has expanded throughout Haiti, resulting in daily crimes including homicides, abductions, and sexual violence. Following the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moise, Haiti plunged into political and economic turmoil, exacerbating poverty levels. This, combined with the termination of fuel subsidies in 2022, spurred widespread public unrest. The nation also grapples with severe food insecurity and a cholera epidemic, further straining healthcare and clean water access. The intensifying crises have led to the displacement of thousands and significant disruptions in education, with many students at risk of gang recruitment.
