USAID is actively engaged in strengthening Haiti's health systems, focusing on building the capacity of local organizations and the Haitian government to address the challenges faced by the country's healthcare infrastructure. These challenges include governance issues, financial and geographical barriers to healthcare access, shortages of healthcare workers and essential medicines, and disruptions caused by various crises such as political unrest, the COVID-19 pandemic, the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, and natural disasters. The shortage of qualified healthcare professionals due to insecurity and poor working conditions further compounds the healthcare crisis. USAID's strategy aims to address these issues comprehensively, covering aspects such as service delivery, health workforce, health information systems, access to essential medicines, health systems financing, and leadership and governance. By involving key stakeholders, including communities, civil society, and the private sector, USAID aims to create locally-led solutions for sustainable impact and improved health outcomes. They have specific initiatives in place, including activities focused on improving the health workforce, healthcare financing, health information systems, and the medical oxygen ecosystem. Additionally, USAID has played a significant role in enhancing governance capacity and has supported the development of the Health Master Plan and improved hospital financial management. Through their efforts, USAID seeks to contribute to Haiti's healthcare system's resilience and ability to provide essential services in the face of complex challenges.
