Estos estudios son en su mayoría cross country, y plantean generalidades sobre dichas relaciones. La mayoría de países que se han estudiado cuentan con recursos mineros tales como diamantes o petróleo. Estos estudios muestran una relación positiva entre duración del conflicto y presencia de recursos. Dicha relación es más fuerte entre más fácil de transportar sean los recursos.
