Policies

Peer Review

  • All submissions undergo double-blind peer review. Neither the authors nor the reviewers know each other’s identities.
  • Possible editorial decisions include acceptance (with or without revisions), revise and resubmit, or rejection.
  • If revisions are requested, one round of major revisions is generally anticipated.
  • Reviewers receive guidance to ensure feedback is constructive and fair.
  • Authors may revise and resubmit in response to reviewer and editor feedback.

Copyright & Licensing

  • Authors retain copyright to their work.
  • Upon acceptance, authors grant Athenaeum permission to publish their work under a Creative Commons license.
  • Published work may also be posted on personal websites (self-archiving is permitted).
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring they hold the rights to all materials included in their submission (text, images, audio, video, datasets, etc.).

Ethical & Legal Requirements

  • Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest or funding sources.
  • All sources must be cited appropriately; plagiarism is grounds for rejection.
  • AI-generated content must be clearly identified and described (e.g., specifying the tool and how it was used).
  • For co-authored works, a signed Co-Author Agreement Form must be provided before publication.

Withdrawal Policy

  • Submissions may be withdrawn at any time before peer review begins.
  • If a manuscript is already under review, withdrawal requires written notice to the editors.

Post-Publication Policy

  • Authors may request corrections, retractions, or updates at any time.
  • Letters to the editors may be submitted for comments or rebuttals; accepted letters are considered for publication in a future issue.

ORCiD

  • Authors are encouraged to provide an ORCiD ID for persistent author identification. Guidance is available for authors who do not yet have one.
