Abstract

In keeping the FIU commitment to long-term preservation and access to distinctive audio collections, this presentation will provide an overview of a SEFLIN Breakthrough Award grant to digitize and create access to hundreds of audio recordings from the Diaz-Ayala Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection (DAC). This grant allowed DAC to purchase the equipment to create a reel-to-reel digitization laboratory to start processing the reel-to-reel series collection of 100 tapes. This presentation will provide an overview of strategies and challenges of material digitization, description, and team coordination. We will also provide a tour through the FIU digital repository dPanther with examples
