Abstract

During a project to digitize the daily 1922 journal of a Vizcaya gardener, contextual research revealed that assumptions about who the author was were incorrect. Further research has revealed that the likeliest author was the estate manager from 1919 to the 1930s. The journal itself includes information on all aspects of the estate, including which vegetables and flowers were planted and when, how many vehicles drove through to tour the estate, when Mr. Deering was in residence and his activities, and notes on weather and tidal patterns.
