Submission Guidelines for International Is Our Middle Name: Oral Histories of FIU

Who Can Submit

Submissions to International Is Our Middle Name: Oral Histories of FIU are limited to graduate students enrolled in the EDH6061 Oral History Project at Florida International University. Only oral histories conducted as part of this course may be submitted. Students complete these submissions under the guidance of their professor.

How to Submit an Oral History

1. Ensure your submission is in an acceptable format:

  • Audio: MP3, WAV
  • Video: MP4, MOV
  • Transcripts (optional): PDF only

All files must be uploaded directly to Digital Commons. External links (e.g., YouTube, SoundCloud) are not permitted, as Digital Commons serves as the long-term digital preservation platform.

2. Write an abstract for your submission. The abstract should be no more than 250 words.

3. Provide a list of keywords (optional, up to 10, separated by commas). Keywords should be chosen to help users find your oral history in search results.

4. Upload the following required files:

  • Oral History File (audio or video)
  • Signed Oral History Release Forms for both the interviewer and interviewee (must be uploaded as supplemental files and marked as "hidden" to protect identifying information)

5. Submit your materials directly through Digital Commons. If you need assistance, contact dcc@fiu.edu.

Review and Approval Process

Once submitted, you will receive an automatic confirmation email. A member of the Digital Collections Center (DCC) will review your submission to ensure metadata accuracy before publishing it.

Revisions & Updates

If you realize you made a mistake after submission, you may request a revision by contacting dcc@fiu.edu.

If an interviewee requests changes to their oral history after publication, they should also contact dcc@fiu.edu with their concerns.
