Ana Cecilia Olivieri Education, Learning and the Brain: How can we make better use of brain-power and thinking skills to optimize our human experience and expression? How do we develop mindfulness and thinking dispositions to learn?

Abstract:

The following thesis will give support to the importance of using critical thinking in the classroom and to foster tolerance towards minorities or other groups. Teachers and institutions can make a huge difference regarding the openness and awareness about diversity the students will achieve in the near future. A good way to achieve this goal is to work with thinking routines (Project Zero) to improve performance and understanding. I will also state the consequences of having a limited perspective instead of a universal one.

Alex J. Box Impacts of New Pedagogies for Deep Learning on Wellbeing

Abstract:

The New Pedagogies for Deep Learning framework is a global partnership with a focus on building knowledge and practices for developing deep learning and fostering whole system change (http://npdl.global/). By adopting the NPDL framework at a primary school level, we have discovered and wish to highlight the impacts that pedagogy and curriculum have on learner well-being when there is an explicit and embedded focus on blended learning, student agency, authentic learning and local/global citizenship in general practice.

Natalia Pinzon Applying The 8 Cultural Forces and Other Thinking Strategies Towards Creating a Culture of Mindful Eating in the School Environment

Abstract:

Ron Ritchhart's 8 Cultural Forces of Thinking assure that a Culture of Thinking is present in school, but if applied in terms of nutritional and wellness concepts, these same 8 Cultural Forces have the power to create the necessary environment to foster best nutrition and wellness practices in children. This workshop explores how teachers can combine Ritchhart's 8 Cultural Forces and other Thinking Strategies, with nutrition and wellness concepts to create a Culture of Wellness and Mindful Nutrition in their school community.
