Description / Descripción

In this interactive workshop, I will share the process through which I have effectively used Teaching for Understanding with a focus on the global competencies to create high-interest project–based learning experiences that engage students in solving global issues. This presentation will emphasize the importance of building emotional connections for students and demonstrate how to create such associations. Participants will also learn how to think about their curriculum differently and consider ways to skillfully integrate disciplines while following their students’ lead.

One example that will be shared and examined in detail is the project-based learning experience, Order in the Court, which has been included in the Visible Thinking South Florida book, Authentic and Meaningful Teaching and Learning: Voices from the Field. This unit was also featured in Teachers Matter Magazine and is in its seventh year of success in our third grade classes at Palm Beach Day Academy.
