Abstract

Background: Postoperative sore throat is a frequent side effect of anesthesia that affects recovery and decreases patient satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anesthesia providers' understanding of the causes, risk factors, pharmacological therapies, and underlying mechanisms of postoperative sore throat. Methods: An extensive review of existing procedures was carried out to ascertain the significance and management of postoperative sore throat. To gauge their knowledge of the causes, pharmacological interventions, risk factors, and consequences associated with postoperative sore throat, a survey of practicing anesthesia professionals was conducted. An educational module was designed with the purpose of educating healthcare providers about the implications associated with inadequate assessment and treatment. Pre- and posttests were used to gauge participants' knowledge and attitudes regarding the use of various evaluation instruments and treatment techniques. An anonymous web platform was used for the distribution of modules, the administration of surveys, and the gathering of data. Results: The results demonstrated a significant enhancement in the comprehension of complications and particular pharmacological treatments linked to postoperative sore throat among the participants in the posttest as compared to the pretest. However, there was significant variation in attitudes toward preoperative examinations, treatment techniques, and the significance of certain risk factors. Discussion: The findings showed a wide range of viewpoints among anesthesia professionals, highlighting the necessity of continual education and awareness campaigns designed to fill the known knowledge gaps. The range of replies demonstrates the multifaceted nature of anesthesia professionals' viewpoints, which may be impacted by diverse experiences and training backgrounds. Conclusion: The findings underscore the significance of focused educational initiatives designed to improve anesthesia practitioners' comprehension of postoperative sore throat. Educational institutions and advanced practice nurses play a crucial role in designing individualized learning plans. The implementation of these endeavors is of the utmost importance in order to enhance patient care, establish uniformity in preoperative evaluations, and promote interdisciplinary cooperation in the field of anesthesia.
