Abstract

The National Transgender Discrimination Survey resulted that 50% of transgender patients reported teaching medical providers about transgender care.1 Clark et al. (2018) conducted a study that resulted 61.0% of patients identifying as transgender/gender variant have opted to delay or avoid medical care due to their fears of how healthcare providers might react to their gender identity.2 A solution to this issue is developing an educational program to increase providers' knowledge of the transgender patient population regarding implicit bias and health disparities this patient population endures. The purpose of this evidence-based project is to increase peri-operative providers' knowledge rates on the transgender patient population to increase transgender patients' access to high-quality healthcare.
