Biography: Herlinda Vicente is an immigrant woman, an outside worker, and labor organizer with We Count!, who speaks out about the abuse she suffers at work. Herlinda is a part of Que Calor!, a campaign led by outside workers demanding cold water, a place of shade, and a 10-minute break every two hours during their work time.

Description

In this interview, Herlinda Vicente shares her experience working outdoors in the South Florida heat. Specifically, she shares how the continuous exposure to heat causes her intense headaches and other health problems. Additionally, Herlinda recounts how difficult it is for her to find a stable and more comfortable job as an immigrant woman with limited formal education. The situation forces her into outside work. During the interview, she also explains how We Count! has helped her and plans to help her obtain protections at work. Herlinda speaks Mayan, so We Count organizer, Marta Gabriel, joined to translate Herlinda’s story during the interview.
