These research-based habits, or dispositions, include persisting, managing impulsivity, listening with understanding and empathy, and thinking interdependently. Now the Habits of Mind can be unpacked through music. The lyricist E.Y Harburg once said, “Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. Singing makes you feel a thought.” Neuroscientists have found that singing alleviates stress, elevates mood, and helps us feel more connected.
