Description / Descripción
One strategy for cultivating critical thinking skills and dispositions for all learners is to ask them to engage in frequent critical thinking practices such as Visible Thinking routines (Project Zero 2017). The Project Approach is a set of teaching strategies which allow children to research topics that interest them and empowers teachers to guide children through an in depth study of real and relevant topics.
We will share our adventure of weaving these two effective educational approaches into cohesive long term projects to promote young learners critical thinking skills and dispositions. We will also share the data we collected demonstrating that regular use of visible thinking routines helped our learners broaden their critical thinking skills and dispositions over a 3 and 6 month period.
