Abstract
The FIU Libraries’ Academic & Intellectual Freedom Committee hosted a discussion on censorship, religious freedom, and secularism in Western civilizations during Banned Books Week 2024. Our panel consisted of FIU Religious Studies faculty members Whitney Bauman, Daniel Alvarez, and Oren Stier. Librarians Tom Moore and Christopher Jimenez led a civil discussion exploring the roots of Western civilization, focusing on freedom of religion and how those foundational principles both challenge and are challenged by issues of censorship.
