Abstract

One of the most alarming issues of concern among homeless is healthcare. To date several solutions have emerged ranging from government funded programs, free clinics, and non-profit organizations; however, a gap still remains between the incidence rate of homelessness, the use of these resources, and vertical mobility out of homelessness. This research explores the views, perspectives and experiences of homeless individuals in Miami in regards to the healthcare system. It will also provide insight into the similarities and differences between the subjective experiences of homeless immigrants and homeless American citizens. This was accomplished by conducting qualitative interviews with a population of 30 homeless individuals as well as three organizations that provide resources such as healthcare to the homeless community. As this project is still in progress, data will be available by the day of the conference.
