Abstract
THE DEVIL’S WORST ADVOCATE is a YA mystery novel that focuses on the investigations of Lucia Ferrado into the disappearance of her best friend, Angelica De La Cruz. Her friend disappears after they arrive in the town of Blackwood, Massachusetts. The town itself is in serious disrepair when Lucia arrives with Angelica and several other members of their religion to spread their faith. In reality, the cult exists to serve Lucia’s father, Father Ferrado. The man uses the church to fill his every need and has chosen to expand his congregation by means of indoctrinating Blackwood. Lucia searches the town and comes to understand her father’s greed and cruelty. She also finds that her friend disappeared to escape the church’s clutches and be free from its toxic culture. The story ends with her cutting ties to her religion while keeping her faith and choosing to help the people she can.
