Abstract
The following research will focus on the community of Allapattah located in East Miami, Florida. This community is not well known but Allapattah is home to many immigrants who have recently arrived in the United States and are starting a new life within the city. Over the last few decades, the community has grown and become a safe haven for all immigrants such as newly arrived Cubans, Peruvians, Nicaraguans, and others no matter their background. The neighborhood of Allapattah holds a health clinic, cultural center, and a Catholic Church which unites the community by providing all those in need with fundamental resources to survive. The church focuses on advocating for the Latin American community within Allapattah and sheltering the religious icon of el Señor de los Milagros, which was previously rejected when first arrived with Peruvians in Miami. This paper highlights the celebration of the saint in their community.
