Philosophy of American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases

It is our commitment to offer authors from across the Americas a platform for publishing their scientific work free-of-charge in any of the three most common languages of the region (English, Spanish or Portuguese) under a Creative Commons license (see below for more details).

Who Can Submit?

Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer).

General Submission Rules

Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases. Each submission is subject to a two-step peer review process: first, the editors assess the originality and relevance of the article. If the manuscript is judged suitable for the journal, the document will be sent to at least two independent referees for blind review. The reviewers will evaluate the scientific value, the quality of the writing, the use of appropriate methodology, the adequacy of sources, and the conceptual rigor of the manuscript.

Formatting Requirements

American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases requires to use the official template https://digitalcommons.fiu.edu/ajncd/Manuscript_Template.docx> for article submission. See the Guidelines for authors {hyperlink} for details. It is ultimately the responsibility of the author to produce an electronic version of the article as a Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or RTF file that can be converted to a PDF file.

It is understood that the current state of technology of Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) is such that there are no, and can be no, guarantees that documents in PDF will work perfectly with all possible hardware and software configurations that readers may have.

Copyright Policy Statement FIU Digital Commons

As a condition of publication in the American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases, all authors agree to the following terms of licensing/copyright ownership:
  1. First publication rights to original work accepted for publication is granted to the American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases but copyright for all work published in the journal is retained by the author(s).
  2. Works published in American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases will be distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY). By granting a CC-BY license in their work, authors retain copyright ownership of the work, but they give explicit permission for others to download, reuse, reprint, modify, distribute, and/or copy the work, as long as the original source and author(s) are properly cited (i.e. a complete bibliographic citation and link to the AJNCD website). No permission is required from the author(s) or the publishers for such use. According to the terms of the CC-BY license, any reuse or redistribution must indicate the original CC-BY license terms of the work. Exceptions to the application of the CC-BY license may be granted at the editors’ discretion if reasonable extenuating circumstances exist. Such exceptions must be granted in writing by the editors of the Journal; in the absence of a written exception, the CC-BY license will be applied to all published works.
  3. Authors may enter into separate, additional contractual agreements for the non-exclusive distribution of the published version of the work, with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in Class, Race and Corporate Power.
  4. Authors are permitted to post their work online in institutional/disciplinary repositories or on their own websites. Pre-print versions posted online should include a citation and link to the final published version in the American Journal of Non-Communicable Diseases as soon as the issue is available; post-print versions (including the final publisher's PDF) should include a citation and link to the journal's website.

All materials published on the AJNCD website are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license, unless otherwise noted.

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the FIU Digital Commons website and/or software agree not to misuse the FIU Digital Commons service or software in any way.

The failure of FIU Digital Commons to exercise or enforce any right or provision in the policies or the Submission Agreement does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any term of the Submission Agreement or these policies is found to be invalid, the parties nevertheless agree that the court should endeavor to give effect to the parties' intentions as reflected in the provision, and the other provisions of the Submission Agreement and these policies remain in full force and effect. These policies and the Submission Agreement constitute the entire agreement between FIU Digital Commons and the Author(s) regarding submission of the Article.
