El 11 de septiembre provocó una transformación en la historia de Estados Unidos, lo cual se evidenció en el atentado que cobró la vida de miles de personas, afectando el contexto social, político y económico. El hecho demostró la vulnerabilidad y lo expuesta que estaba la potencia mundial ante amenazas no convencionales, como las células terroristas de Al Qaeda, las cuales atacaron un interés norteamericano al interior del mismo Estado, lo que hasta ese momento era impensable.
Para ello es necesario entender la dimensión superlativa y a la vez humillante para Estados Unidos, sabiendo que desde ese momento nada es igual. Cabe resaltar que a partir del atentado se han hecho cambios en la política exterior, debido a la dinámica que le dio al interés nacional; la reacción de los ciudadanos estadounidenses fue enfocarse en el poder del Estado, usando el sentimiento de protección a su seguridad familiar, e incluso personal, lo que hizo que se transformara en un apoyo para el gobierno.
A raíz del atentado, la agenda de Estados Unidos, y por lo tanto del concierto internacional, cambió, pasando a ser la lucha contra organizaciones terroristas una prioridad y estableciendo nuevas directrices en su política exterior. Este hecho no solo repercutió en los estamentos administrativos del Estado sino en la conciencia colectiva de un pueblo que dejó de sentirse seguro dentro de sus propias fronteras. El miedo que se generó se convirtió en apoyo al gobierno de turno debido a que, para ese momento, la necesidad de respuestas justificó las acciones que tomó dicho gobierno.
September 11 caused a transformation in the history of the United States, which was evidenced in the attack that claimed the lives of thousands of people, affecting the social, political and economic context. The event demonstrated the vulnerability and exposure of the world power to unconventional threats, such as the terrorist cells of Al Qaeda, which attacked an American interest within the same State, which until then was unthinkable. For this, it is necessary to understand the superlative and at the same time humiliating dimension for the United States, knowing that from that moment nothing is the same. It should be noted that since the attack, changes have been made in foreign policy, due to the dynamics that it gave to the national interest; the reaction of American citizens was to focus on the power of the state, using the feeling of protection for their family, and even personal security, which made it become a support for the government. As a result of the attack, the agenda of the United States, and therefore of the international concert, changed, making the fight against terrorist organizations a priority and establishing new guidelines in its foreign policy. This fact not only had repercussions in the administrative levels of the State but in the collective conscience of a people that stopped feeling safe within their own borders. The fear that was generated turned into support for the government of the day because, at that time, the need for answers justified the actions that said government took.
