El Ejército Nacional de Colombia, a causa del Conflicto Armado Interno que vive la nacional suramericana, se ha visto obligado a atender de manera prioritaria la seguridad del territorio y la defensa de la población frente a una amenaza interna, sin embargo, con el desarrollo de los procesos de paz con las guerrillas de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) y el Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) aunado a los esfuerzos por redefinir los roles de las Fuerzas Armadas y establecer nuevas doctrinas que se adapten al contexto, se presenta como una prioridad establecer el papel que debe desempeñar este Ejército en la construcción de escenarios de integración regional, partiendo de su vocación constitucional de defensa de las fronteras terrestres de la nación y llevando ese rol tradicional a los nuevos tiempos, promoviendo escenarios de cooperación bilateral en asuntos de seguridad y defensa, principalmente para enfrentar las nuevas amenazas que en cabeza de bandas de crimen organizado transnacional, atentan contra la organización Estatal, la estabilidad institucional y la seguridad de la población.
La interdependencia, el desarrollo de capacidades fronterizas, la cooperación bilateral, el afianzamiento de escenarios como las Comisiones Binacionales Fronterizas (COMBIFRON) y la decidida movilización de pie de fuerza militar a zonas de frontera, son el pilar que van a permitir darle ímpetu a la construcción de escenarios de integración regional bajo el liderazgo del Ejército Nacional de Colombia.
The Colombian National Army, because of the Internal Armed Conflict that the South American National is experiencing, has been forced to address as a priority the security of the territory and the defense of the population against an internal threat, however, with the development of the peace processes with the guerrillas of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the National Liberation Army (ELN) together with the efforts to redefine the roles of the Armed Forces and establish new doctrines that adapt to the context, it is presented as a priority to establish the role that it must play this Army in the construction of scenarios of regional integration, starting from its constitutional vocation of defense of the land borders of the nation and taking that traditional role to the new times, promoting scenarios of bilateral cooperation in security and defense matters, mainly to face the new threats that at the head of transnational organized crime gangs, attack State organization, institutional stability and the security of the population. Interdependence, the development of border capacities, bilateral cooperation, the strengthening of scenarios such as the Binational Border Commissions (COMBIFRON) and the determined mobilization of military force to border areas, are the pillar that will allow impetus to be given to the construction of scenarios of regional integration under the leadership of the Colombian National Army.
