The Galapagos Marine Reserve (GMR) was created in 1998 within the framework of the Special Law for Galapagos (LOREG or Ley de Régimen Especial para la Conservación y Desarrollo Sustentable de la Provincia de Galápagos; CNE, 1998). Currently, the conservation of of the GMR is high and social conflicts have been addressed with the participation of all of its users. This article reviews participatory management of the GMR and the priorities of the Participatory Management Board (PMG) during its last six years of existence, prior to its dissolution under the 2015 reform of the Special Law (National Assembly, 2015).
