To communicate the copyright status of our materials, FIU Libraries uses RightsStatements.org when copyright information is available. RightsStatements.org provides standardized statements to clearly communicate the copyright and reuse status of works made available in the Institutional Repository. These statements do not grant new permissions; rather, they describe what is known about the legal status of an item and any access or reuse restrictions that apply.

When you deposit your work in the Institutional Repository, you may choose to apply a Creative Commons (CC) license. A CC license allows you to clearly state how others may use, share, and build upon your work while you retain copyright.
Creative Commons licenses range from the most open (allowing reuse with attribution) to more restrictive options (limiting commercial use and/or the creation of derivative works). All CC licenses require attribution to you as the author.
Selecting a CC license helps:
Before selecting a license, consider how you want your work to be used (e.g., commercial reuse, adaptation, translation). Once applied, a CC license is intended to be permanent and cannot be revoked for copies already distributed.
The materials in the insitiutional repository are made available for education, scholarship, research, teaching, and private study. If you intend to distribute or reproduce these materials, written permission from the copyright owner or rights holder may be required.
