Submission Guidelines

Literacy Practice & Research (LPR) is a juried publication of the Organization of Teacher Educators in Literacy (OTEL). Our members primarily consist of professors, administrators, supervisors, consultants, and students pursuing degrees in the Reading Education field.

The focus of LPR is to promote excellent literacy education through improvement in the education of reading teachers. The articles of interest to LPR members include improving professional practices in higher education, helping teachers improve their instruction, facilitating the administrative and supervisory processes, and researching teaching practices.

Articles – may be research-based, opinion pieces, reviews of newly published literacy texts, informational pieces, and other submissions of varying content.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions may vary in length – double-spaced, 12-point type, Times New Roman font, in English.

When submitting an article for consideration, please provide the following: - One proofed, APA 7th edition, electronic copy, to the submissions at digitalcommons.fiu.edu/lpr. - An abstract—100 words max - An author note—50 words max, or 75 words max for articles with multiple authors

Special Writing Notes: - Use active voice. - Avoid overuse of weak “ing” verbs. - Avoid overuse of adjectives/adverbs and the word “very.” - Articles must contain methodology, a theoretical perspective for the methodology, and must offer implications.

LPR Cover Submission Guidelines

All artwork submitted for use on the cover of this journal must meet the following requirement: submissions not meeting this requirement will not be considered.

Artwork and all images therein must not be copyrighted (unless the artist holds and can produce documentation to show that he or she owns the copyrights to the artwork).

Copyright Policy Statement for Authors

As a condition of publication in the Literacy Research and Practice, all authors agree to the following terms of licensing/copyright ownership:

First publication rights to original work accepted for publication is granted to the Literacy Research and Practice but copyright for all work published in the journal is retained by the author(s).
Works published in the Literacy Research and Practice will be distributed under a Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs CC BY-NC-ND license. By granting a CC-BY-NC-ND license in their work, authors retain copyright ownership of the work, but they give explicit permission for others to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes, as long as the original source and author(s) are properly cited (i.e. a complete bibliographic citation and link to the LPR website). No permission is required from the author(s) or the publishers for such use.
- Exceptions to the application of the CC-BY-NC-ND license may be granted at the editors’ discretion if reasonable extenuating circumstances exist. Such exceptions must be granted in writing by the editors of the Journal; in the absence of a written exception, the CC-BY-NC-ND license will be applied to all published works.
Authors may enter into separate, additional contractual agreements for the non-exclusive distribution of the published version of the work, with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in the Literacy Research and Practice.
Authors are permitted to post their work online in institutional/disciplinary repositories or on their own websites. Pre-print versions posted online should include a citation and link to the final published version in the Literacy Research and Practice as soon as the issue is available; post-print versions (including the final publisher's PDF) should include a citation and link to the journal's website.

All materials published on the LPR website are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 Unported license, unless otherwise noted.
