Aims & Scope

Athenaeum publishes scholarship and professional work that deepens understanding of library and information science, showcases innovative practice, and engages in interdisciplinary conversations relevant to libraries.

The journal supports two main pathways for submission:

1. Original scholarship – Research articles, case studies, reports, or creative works developed specifically for publication in Athenaeum.
2. Recontextualized work – A prior conference presentation, poster, digital exhibit, or similar output accompanied by a newly written article (minimum 1,000 words) that places the original work in a broader professional, scholarly, or institutional context.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

• Information literacy and instructional design
• Collection development and assessment
• Library technology and systems
• Scholarly communication and publishing
• Digital collections, preservation, and curation
• Research data management and open scholarship

While Athenaeum accepts a wide range of media, all submissions must include a written article as the primary component. Supplemental materials—such as slide decks, multimedia files, datasets, or interactive exhibits—are welcome when they enhance or illustrate the article’s content. All submissions should clearly demonstrate their relevance to library and information science and engage thoughtfully with current scholarship or professional practice.
