Abstract / Abstracto

Abstract

This article shares the project of a community library, located in a rural and indigenous community of Mexico, from the voices of those who devised and built it; of the children who frequent it: and of the young people responsible for caring for it. The “unique” history of reading that prevails in hegemonic discourse is that of a school activity or of intellectuals, recently of actors or athletes. However, there are many and very varied reading practices, but official speeches have legitimized only a few, unvisitable others that are no less valuable or legitimate; and have created false reading images and reader stereotypes. So, it becomes necessary to look and listen to those other stories that elite groups do not give rise to. This is one of those stories.
