Abstract

Knowing the academic writing practices carried out by the different university communities is particularly important because it allows, on the one hand, to determine the specific ways in which each disciplinary community communicates and generates knowledge; on the other, it proposes a series of measures that promote academic enculturation in the codes, discourses and disciplinary conventions, as a specific form of literacy that higher education institutions should guarantee for their students to be active members of their respective professional communities (Castelló, 2014). The objective of the work is to investigate the writing practices that psychology students perform. For this, an adaptation was made to the European Survey on Academic Writing, applied to 181 psychology students of the first and last semesters of two public universities. The results show that the two groups of students coincide in pointing out the scarce feedback received in their work by their professors, as well as differences in the texts written by both populations (essays, summaries and written exams). Finally, the students agree on the need to have institutional support to improve their writing competence.
