Resumen

Este artículo se centra en la reflexión sobre el estado de la situación respecto a la cultura escrita en República Dominicana y los programas que se han desarrollado desde la Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) y la Asociación Dominicana de Lectura (ADOLEC), como respuesta a los desafíos que la realidad plantea. Entre estos programas describiremos la formación de docentes en servicio, las bibliotecas de aula, los concursos de cuentos infantiles, las ferias y los maratones de lectura y sus efectos en los estudiantes y en la comunidad. Igualmente, presentaremos los retos que quedan pendientes en pro de una literacidad con mayor calidad y equidad.

Abstract T

his article focuses on the reflection on the state of the situation regarding written culture in Dominican Republic and the programs that have been developed from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Dominican Reading Association (ADOLEC (in response to the challenges the reality poses. Among these programs, we will describe in-service teacher training, classroom libraries, children´s story contests, fairs and read-a-thons and their effects on students and the community. Likewise, we will present the challenges that remain pending in favor of literacy with greater quality and equity.
