Abstract

This research explores the importance of the 1893 Parliament of the World’s Religions and its relationship with inter-religious dialogue. This relationship is explored by comparing and analyzing the papers presented by Judaism, Islam, and Christianity to determine how each of these religions talked about and interacted with the other two. The papers provide the evidence necessary to determine which religions were able to accomplish inter-religious dialogue and under what circumstances. By connecting the speeches given at the Parliament with the political climates surrounding 1893, this research provides a clearer understanding of the Parliament’s relationship with inter-religious dialogue and its influential legacy. This research concludes that the clues from the Parliament papers must be better understood to enhance inter-religious dialogue today.
