Abstract
HOTLINE BIMBO is a collection of free-verse poetry that explores gender, sexuality, and interpersonal relationships in Gen Z through the lens of fourth-wave feminism. HOTLINE BIMBO employs a narrative mode, with a speaker reflecting the perspective of a Gen Z woman who grew up witnessing and internalizing the harsh tabloid culture of the 2000s. Echoing that connection, several poems in HOTLINE BIMBO reference and identify with “outcast” women of previous generations, such as Anna Nicole Smith and Monica Lewinsky. HOTLINE BIMBO is influenced by other fourth-generation feminist poets like Melissa Lozada-Oliva, Tiana Clark, and Fatimah Asghar, whose works are known for anti-violence themes, pop culture subjects, and reclamations of derogatory terms. Most poems take place in South Florida, an ecologically doomed landscape that breeds substance abuse and celebrity culture. HOTLINE BIMBO is an introspective account of the infamous Miami party scene from a speaker seeking personal empowerment in strange places.
