Abstract

Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained prominence in the health and wellness community; however, knowledge of its advantages and potential risks remains insufficient among both patients and healthcare providers. Research has indicated that intermittent fasting may offer several health benefits, such as enhanced metabolic function and effective weight management. Despite these findings, there is still a need for increased education and awareness about intermittent fasting within the healthcare sector and among the general public.

The primary aim of this quality improvement project was to assess the effectiveness of an educational intervention in enhancing the understanding and awareness of intermittent fasting among adult members of a wellness clinic in Miami, FL. Specifically, the study focused on evaluating changes in participants' knowledge and perceptions of intermittent fasting and its potential health benefits.

To achieve this, a PowerPoint presentation on intermittent fasting was developed and delivered to the clinic's members. The educational intervention was paired with a pretest and posttest design administered via Qualtrics. Participants voluntarily completed the pretest before viewing the presentation and the posttest one week afterward, allowing for the assessment of shifts in their understanding and perceptions over time.

A total of 10 participants, consisting of men and women, completed both the pretest and posttest surveys. The collected data was analyzed and compared, revealing an increase in participants' knowledge following the presentation. While the limited sample size may constrain the generalizability of the findings, the results underscore the value of implementing educational programs to improve knowledge and awareness of intermittent fasting.
