Thinking and learning are not activities isolated in the brain; they are embodied experiences. The mind arises out of the fluid, ever-unfolding interplay between the body, brain, and environment. Learning that occurs within and through movement, deepens the process of perception and understanding. Using the lens of embodied cognition, this presentation will examine the developmental movement patterns that create the foundations of how we think and learn. Participants will also explore the life transferable dispositions that emerge through creative process and experiential learning. This session is designed to be beneficial for everyone from timid movers to skilled dance practitioners, and includes approaches that are suitable for classrooms with students of all abilities. Participants will gain practical experience utilizing movement and dance to help students develop social and emotional intelligence, alongside creative and critical thinking skills.
